To Hell with Prizes – Award for Best Unpublished Novel 2011

‘To Hell with Prizes is utterly brilliant and revolutionary.  I urge every agent in the UK to delve into their bottom drawers and pull out that one novel they still can’t believe they didn’t sell.  It could be a life-changing move for one of their authors, it certainly was for one of mine!’

- Cathryn Summerhayes, William Morris

To Hell with Prizes has been set up to support debut fiction.  It is a unique prize aimed at authors who have a UK literary agent but are not yet published.

We are delighted to offer a prize of £5,000 and a specially produced To Hell with Publishing limited edition.  The award ceremony will be held in April 2011 just before The London Book Fair.  The hope is that this will further the winner’s chances of securing a publishing deal.

All first works of fiction written by a UK resident will be eligible but the author must be represented by a UK literary agency and must be unpublished up until the point of the shortlist announcement in January. Short story collections will not be eligible.

The judges will be looking for works of skill, originality and promise.

Submissions must arrive by 4th Novemver 2010.

Please be sure to read the entry criteria carefully, as signing the entry form confirms that you have informed your authors of their obligations should they win.

In desperation turned to Xlibris. Just this morning saw the piece about you in the Saturday Times. Wish I had known earlier.

    Dear THWP,
I would like to enter the To Hell Prize competition with my second unpublished novel. My first novel (Perspective of Matter) was privately published on Lulu and received good reviews. However in spite of trying very hard, I have not managed to get a literary agent. As your entry form requires one, I am not sure I am eligable. Can you tell me whether it is worth me submitting a manuscript.
    Kind regards,
    David

      Dear David,

I’m afraid that the prize rules mean that your submission wouldn’t be eligible but it sounds like you would be a candidate for our First Novels list so you could always submit it for that.

      Best wishes,

      THWP

I have self published a comic novel which has been very well received on the Authonomy site and the YouWriteOn site. I do not have an agent.
Would I be eligible to enter the 2o11 contest. It is available on Amazon, and on Amazon Kindle. Eric

Our prize is for UK literary agents to submit an unpublished novel on their list. So your novel wold not be eligible. You would be eligible for our First Novels list. Take a look at our submissions policy and see if it’s something that would interest you.

      Best wishes,

      THWP
